Hi and a very warm welcome from
the Latvian Cricket Federation. Cricket is a rather new game to
Latvia and to most of the Latvians. Cricket in Latvia had its
first known origins in 1998 when staff from the British Embassy in
Riga, gathered together to treat themselves to a taste of
home. Year 1999 was a high point in the short history of Latvian
cricket with the formation of the Latvian Cricket Club and its
participation in the Tallinn Cup, a tournament hosted by the
Estonian Cricket Club, the Baltics other cricket club.
Latvian Cricket Club was officially established in the year
2001 by a bunch of cricket enthusiasts. The game is now run by
the registered and official governing body of
cricket in Latvia, the "Latvian Cricket Federation".
Latvian Cricket has more of an Asian and foreign influence, with its
60 or
so hardy members playing every Saturday and Sunday, though many locals are
showing interest and learning the game now. Latvian Cricket
Federation is working closely with the European Cricket
Council in order to promote the game in Latvia and introduce
it to more & more Latvians.
Check the news section & fixtures for the latest coverage of the game officially played in the region on a regular basis
according to the rules set by the cricket's governing body the
International Cricket Council (ICC). Our league teams
practice and play friendly matches every Saturday & Sunday;
outdoor (summer) and Indoor (winter).
A new league system comprising of 5 local teams is recently
introduced which is played on a point basis and is gaining
momentum. Latvian National Cricket Team is selected from the
best players of all the teams playing locally.
Riga has been
and still is the
heart of the Baltics & a business and cultural center which
is now well connected with the rest of the Europe. Any overseas club interested
in visiting Riga and
have a game with our club from May to September, please contact
